Credit repair in Dallas: credit report review and dispute help
A records process, explained plainly. Results vary.
Credit repair, done legally, is a records process. At our Oak Cliff office we sit down with your Equifax, Experian and TransUnion reports, mark the entries that look inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable, and help you dispute those entries in writing.
Results vary. Accurate, current information stays on a credit report, and no one can promise you a score.
We start here because it is true, and because federal law requires us to tell you. You have the right to dispute errors on your own credit reports, directly with the credit bureaus and with the company that reported the information, and it costs nothing. The FTC publishes sample dispute letters and the CFPB explains each step.
People hire us when they want someone to organize the paperwork, keep a record of every letter and follow up. Paying for help does not change what the law allows to be corrected.
Free consultation. We explain the process, your rights and what we cannot do, before you decide anything.
Report review. We go through your three reports with you line by line: names, addresses, account status, balances, dates and duplicate entries.
Written plan. You get a list of the entries worth disputing and the documents that support each one.
Disputes. We help prepare disputes to the bureaus and to the companies that furnished the information, with copies of your documents.
Follow-up. When a bureau or furnisher answers, we go over the response with you and what, if anything, changed on the report.
The bureaus and furnishers decide each dispute, not us. Some disputed entries are corrected. Others are verified as accurate and stay.
What a credit repair company cannot legally do
Promise a specific score, a specific result, or a date by which something will change
Dispute information it knows is accurate, or tell you to misstate facts
Suggest a new identity, a different Social Security number or an EIN in place of your own
Charge you before the services in your contract have been fully performed
The federal Credit Repair Organizations Act also gives you a written contract and three business days to cancel without charge. If a company skips any of these, the FTC wants to hear about it.
Most visits start with a specific event: an apartment application that came back with questions, a car loan quote, a mortgage pre-approval, or a collection account the person does not recognize. Files can get mixed when relatives share a name, and accounts sometimes still show a balance after they were paid. Those are record problems, and record problems are what a dispute is for.
If your report is accurate, we will say so. The conversation then turns to on-time payments, balances and time, which no company can speed up.
Common questions
Can I fix errors on my credit report myself?
Yes. You can dispute errors yourself at no cost by writing to the credit bureau that shows the error and to the company that reported it. The FTC and the CFPB publish instructions and sample letters. A credit repair company adds organization and follow-up; it has no legal power that you do not have.
Can accurate negative items be taken off my credit report?
No company can lawfully have accurate, current information taken off a credit report. A dispute is for information that is inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or unverifiable. An accurate entry stays for as long as federal law allows it to be reported.
When do I pay for credit repair services?
Under the federal Credit Repair Organizations Act, a credit repair company may not charge you until the services described in your contract have been fully performed. You are also entitled to a written contract and three business days to cancel without charge. Our consultation is free.
